Story Behind the Image
The image, Two Trees in Snow, Yosemite Valley, was made on a beautiful winter morning in Yosemite Valley. It had stopped snowing in the early morning hours, so that morning we woke up to the most perfect winter wonderland. We drove to El Capitan Meadow. It was absolutely beautiful. I made a number of images with my Hasselblad that morning, but the one that stood out among the others was the image "Two Trees in Snow." I was excited when I made it, but I was even more thrilled when I saw the negative and the contact print. It would please me if you could feel the chill in the early morning air, and hear the soft crunch of fresh snow under my boots as you look at my image. I hope you will enjoy it as much as me!
The image Two Trees in Snow, Yosemite Valley, is approximately 6-1/2 x 7", personally printed by Anne, processed to current archival standards, signed, numbered, mounted, and matted to 14 x 17” on 100 percent rag museum board. This print is offered in a Limited Edition of 75 numbered silver gelatin prints, plus 10 artist proofs. When the edition is sold out no further prints will be made for sale in any size.
About Artist
Anne Larsen, whose career spans more than three decades, worked as a successful photographer for one of the largest commercial studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1994 she moved to the United States to pursue a career in fine–art photography.
Anne's intimate still life images and delicate photographs of the natural environment, all made with a 4x5–inch view camera or medium format camera, share a common luminosity and elegance. Her hand made silver gelatin prints are distinguished by their impeccable execution and tonal subtlety. Anne has assisted and taught in workshops instructed by James Baker, Morley Baer, Ruth Bernhard, Charles Cramer, Philip Hyde, Ray McSavaney, and John Sexton.
Her prints are in numerous private and public collections around the world. Her images have been included in exhibitions at The Ansel Adams Gallery, the Susan Spiritus Gallery, and the Alinder Gallery in California, as well as the Sun To Moon Gallery in Dallas, Texas, and the Timeless Gallery in Beijing, China.
In 2007 she was awarded Third–Place Fine Art Still Life in the Pilsner Urquell International Photography Awards. In 2018 Anne was the winner in both the Still Life and Abstract professional categories in the 12th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards. Along with concentrating on her own photographic work, Anne assists her husband, John Sexton, in all aspects of his photography.
