More Information
Michael Frye's photographs show a restless creativity in depicting the world of nature, with subject matter ranging from wildlife, to the landscapes of Yosemite Valley, to boldly colorful nighttime images of the American West.

"My 30-year-old dictionary defines photography as “The art or process of producing images of objects upon a photosensitive surface (as film in a camera) by the chemical action of light or other radiant energy.” I’m not sure about “producing images of objects.” I tell students that we don’t photograph objects, we photograph the light reflected off of objects. A great subject with poor light will make a poor photograph; an ordinary subject with great light can make a great photograph.

But I like the part about “radiant energy.” Although I’m sure Webster’s didn’t mean it this way, I think the radiant energy comes mostly from the photographer, or from the interaction between the photographer and his or her subject.

The photographs on this web site encompass two distinct bodies of work, each using very different kinds of light. One group of images was made during the day, using all the wonderful forms and textures of sunlight. The other group was made at night, combining electronic flash and flashlights (often covered with colored filters) with the dim light of the moon and stars. Although the subject matter is similar, the look and feel of the images is very different. I try to use my main tool—light—to create a mood, whether the mood is lyrical, playful, or mysterious. Worth the Wait June 3, 2017
Reviewer: SW from Magnolia, TX United States
It took longer than anticipated (eight weeks) to receive my order but it was well worth the wait.  It was securely packaged and arrived in excellent condition.  The shipping department at the gallery kept me informed  throughout the order process.

We love the piece and appreciate the descriptive notes from Michael Frye.  Since they were permanently affixed to the mount board, I made a copy to attach to the back of the framing so we could reference them.

This is a welcomed addition to our collection from the Ansel Adams Gallery.

A Wonderful Purchasing Experience June 2, 2017
Reviewer: Ted Apodaca from Andover, MA United States
My most recent experience buying a limited edition photograph from the Ansel Adams Gallery was among the best I've ever had with a gallery. A "hiccup" caused by me in the original transaction had voided my initial purchase of Michel's great photo. When I contacted the Gallery to attempt to reverse that I was most fortunate to reach Wendy Reynolds of the Gallery who went out of her way to help me. And only thanks to her great help, Michael's  photo is now in our collection. Every experience I've had with the Gallery has been professional, fun and successful. I will continue to be a loyal and happy customer and encourage you to also do so.

What a superb art piece! May 9, 2017
Reviewer: 1750spider from Dunedin, FL United States
This artwork is so much more than a 'picture' ... we are so pleased to have added this to our artwork.

In shipping, 1 corner was a bit 'scrunched' but I am confident it will be ironed out in framing.

Again, in the overall: what a wonderful piece!!

Disappointed May 7, 2017
Reviewer: Michael Vesper from Park Ridge, IL United States
I bought the larger print and when opened I didn't have that "I love it" feeling it was more " oh nice but" disappointed with the lack of clarity when compared to the advertised photograph. Also there was no option for a framed picture which is inconvenient. To be fair, it may be that the size takes away that special grandness and focus or that I'm not used to color photos of Yosemite.
