Fine Art Digital Printing with Charles Cramer - April 30 - May 4, 2019

This five-day workshop includes instructor-led field sessions in and around Yosemite Valley. May is primetime for photographers—the freshness of Spring, with lots and lots of water! The dogwood should also be in bloom. This will give students the opportunity to make images around the Yosemite region while receiving instructor feedback.

The "Fine Art" in the title just means that you are willing to devote the time and effort to explore and optimize your images to their fullest potential. This class will give you the tools to go beyond your film or digital camera file, and spur your imagination to create stronger interpretations of your images. Much discussion will center on critiquing prints (produced both before and during the class) and exploring what makes an exceptional print. This workshop will engage both the right and left sides of your brain!

CHARLES CRAMER is a photographer who revels in exploration and craftsmanship. A masterful artist, his career broadly parallels that of Ansel Adams: an early focus on music, finding inspiration in Yosemite National Park, and exploring the developing medium of photography. Charles has worked in the darkroom for many years, mastering the complex Dye Transfer process. He was also one of the first landscape photographers to work with the "digital darkroom", recognizing the computer as an unparalleled means to control color and realize his artistic interpretation of the scene. Cramer has taught printing at the Ansel Adams Gallery for more than 20 years, including their first digital workshop in 2000. In 1987 and 2009, Cramer was selected by the National park Service to be an artist-in-residence in Yosemite. He is also included in the books “Landscape: The World's Top Photographers,” published in 2005, and “First Light: Five Photographers Explore Yosemite's Wilderness,” published in 2009.
