In Born in Yosemite, Peter T. Hoss takes the reader on a 75-year journey through the historical events and personal adventures that have shaped his Yosemite experience. His various relationships with Yosemite including child resident, employee, legal counsel, hiker and skier, and privileged visitor provide him with the perspective that validates his belief in the conservation of the Yosemite experience for future generations.

Peter T. Hoss was born in Yosemite Valley in 1934. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1958 and practiced law in Monterey County, California from 1962-1999. Peter T. Hoss passed away on January 19, 2019.

Currently he is a board member of the Ansel Adams Gallery, a member of the John Muir Heritage Society of the Yosemite Conservancy, and a trustee of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks. Peter and his family visit the park several times a year, enjoying relationships with people who he has met in Yosemite. He has visited all 50 United States and over 70 foreign countries. And he has never, ever found anything comparable to Yosemite.

5 of 5 Born In Yosemite February 8, 2013
Reviewer: Sam Hays from Yosemite
I was born in San Francisco but created in Yosemite in 1949 and my parents brought our growing family on vacation once a year to Yosemite from 1950 to 1966. Then I got my own car and kept the yearly vacations to Yosemite a tradition until 1988 when I returned to Yosemite to live and work full-time as a busdriver and guide.  Of the several hundred books about Yosemite I have in my home library Born In Yosemite is now my favorite. There is nothing better to bring the feel and history of a place alive than the personal recollection of someone who was there from early childhood on. I thank Peter Hoss for bringing Yosemite alive in my imagination during the years before I was born in the same way I thank Galen Clark and John Muir for sharing their memories of those early years in Yosemite before Peter was born. Thus history carries on as if it happened just yesterday.
